Do you have some questions in mind about RFID asset tracking systems? We’ve probably answered some of them here.
- What do you mean by RFID?
RFID is short for Radio Frequency Identification. It is a term used for applications that use radio waves to instantly identify data, objects, and people. It is a highly effective technology that was discovered in the 1970s. The most common type of an RFID system uses microchips mounted to and an antenna (these two are called RFID tag or transponder) to store information.
- What are the components of an RFID tag?
There are two types of RFID tags, and thus they have a few differences in terms of the process of storing and transmitting data. Those RFID with passive tags have three parts: a substrate, an antenna, and integrated circuit or chips. Meanwhile, those with active tags have microchips, an antenna, on-board electronics and onboard power supply.
- How much data can an RFID tag keep?
Differently manufactured RFID tags have different storing capacities. But in average, an RFID tag could store up to 2KB data.
- Can an RFID system affect my health?
It is a myth that the radio waves from RFID affects the health of users. In fact, an RFID system uses a lower electromagnetic spectrum which means that the waves from the RFID readers would not affect your health dramatically. Some experts say that the radio waves from a vehicle’s radio are way more dangerous than the RFID radio waves.
- Can we use sensors with an RFID system?
Yes. In fact, there are companies who incorporate RFID tags and sensors that are specifically made to detect and store movements, temperature and more.
- How can I determine if the RFID frequency is right for my company?
An RFID system has three frequency bands made for different purposes. Low-frequency tags are ideal for the food and water industry since they are the least sensitive to liquid and metals. Ultra-high frequency tags are more efficient for tracking expensive objects such as jewelry. UHF tags are also ideal for industries that require strict payment systems. Lastly, the high-frequency tags are best for companies with ticketing systems such as cinemas and recreational parks.
- Where can I get an RFID tracking system?
You can avail an RFID tracking system from companies that offer RFID products – just like Tagit RFID Solutions. Some of their products include RFID jewellery tags, and other RFID trackers for the retail, fashion, laundry, tire and other industries.
